NIOSH Supports Seat Belt Use by Firefighters
USFA is pleased to announce that the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has endorsed the National Fire Service Seat Belt Campaign, reinforcing the importance of wearing these safety devices to the American Fire Service.

DHS Adopts NFPA Standards for Responders to Hazmat, WMD Incidents
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has adopted two additional National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards for first responders: NFPA 472, Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents and NFPA 473, Standard for Competencies for EMS Personnel Responding to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents.


USFA and NIST Complete Study of Thermal Imaging Technology
USFA and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announce the availability of a new report that contains science-based information for national standards developing organizations on Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) imaging performance metrics and test methods.


New Topical Report: Highway Vehicle Fires
This report examines the causes and characteristics of highway vehicle fires. An estimated 258,500 highway vehicle fires occur annually resulting in 490 civilian deaths, 1,275 civilian injuries, and $1 billion in property loss.
